‘Biodiversity’ From The Lexicon of Sustain Ability
Art giving wings to science. Words giving worth to labour.
The proposed Keystone XL oil sands pipeline would stretch from Alberta’s tar sands to the Gulf Coast of Texas, at a great risk to human and animal habitat and fresh water.
Today a vital letter was sent to President Obama from the Dali Lama, Archbishop Tutu, and seven other Nobel Peace Laureates with these reminders: “you told the world that under your leadership—and working together—the rise of the oceans will begin to slow and the planet will begin to heal. You spoke of creating a clean energy economy. This is a critical moment to make good on that pledge, and make a lasting contribution to the health and well being of everyone of this planet.”
The Laureates recommend to “turn your attention back to supporting renewable sources of energy and clean transportation solutions. This will be your legacy to Americans and the global community: energy that sustains the lives and livelihoods of future generations.”

Thank you sustainable-sam for posting this. Anyone living in a city will be very inspired by Philadelphia’s model of redirecting storm water into beautiful, functional greenery that reduces pollution and flooding while engaging their community to work in partnership.
Philadelphia’s Radical Green Infrastructure Plan Will Harness Rainwater, Fight Pollution (Video)
“Green infrastructure” is a collective term for smarter practices on land that stop water pollution, like green roofs, porous pavement, roadside plantings and increased park space. These methods stop rain where it falls, allowing it to filter back into the ground. That keeps it from turning into runoff that carries pollution, like oil and gas products, trash, and pet waste, from paved surfaces into the water …
This all makes for not only cleaner waterways, but also, as Philadelphia recognizes, all-around healthier, more pleasant places to live. By accounting for a range of social, economic, and environmental benefits that come from adding green spaces to city neighborhoods, Philadelphia has projected that a green approach to reducing sewer overflows will yield more than two dollars in benefits for every dollar invested!
